Exhibit Curation Guidelines

This process is designed to enhance the reputation of the organization as a whole and its members individually, as it does with similar organizations.

Books will be considered for exhibit if they meet A and B, below:

A. ONE OR MORE OF THESE:

  1. IPNE Award winners or finalists.
  2. Winners or finalists of other established awards programs.
  3. Books accepted to previous shows under 2016 curation guidelines.
  4. Books on established trade organization publication lists (see guidelines).
  5. Library of Congress Catalog Number.
B. AND BOTH OF THESE:
  1. Publisher has completed, signed, and submitted our curation checklist.
  2. Completed IPNE profile, including book metadata and cover images.

If you don't meet at least one of the first set of 5 qualifications, send a copy of the book by the shipping deadline of the event at which you wish to exhibit. Books that do not meet the currently posted guidelines will be returned and exhibit fees refunded; and publishers will be offered mentoring sessions and resources to help their books meet curation for future exhibits. Final curation approval rests with the IPNE Board of Directors.

Book 'em - at IPNE events!

The Independent Publishers of New England participates in three major cooperative book-marketing events each fall, and a number of smaller ones.

The "Big Three" this year include:

  1. New England Independent Booksellers Assn. (NEIBA), Oct. 2-4, 2019 in Providence, RI. Reach 1,000 regional booksellers, agents, distributors, and readers.
  2. New England Library Assn. (NELA), Oct. 20-22, 2019 in Mystic, CT Reach 600 regional librarians.
  3. The Boston Book Festival (BBF), Oct. 19, 2019 in Copley Square, Boston. Event draws estimated 15,000 avid readers, plus many key industry professionals.

Farther afield? Not to worry - you don't have to attend, or even be in New England, to exhibit at most of our events; though you may wish to attend when you can. It's fun to mingle and help other Indies; you'll get backstage access to excellent networking; and you'll be able to represent your books as only you can! Click here to join one of our event Project Teams.

Perhaps best of all, exhibiting with IPNE is a small fraction of the cost of mounting a full exhibit on your own and our volunteers get to know your books and represent them with genuine enthusiasm.  Please join us!

    Premiere Bookselling Event!

BosonBookFest 2019 is October 19 - IPNE registration opens soon!

    Use #IPNEatBBF on social media!

Because the BBF is so well attended by a concentrated crowd of book lovers, it creates a special opportunity for independent publishers to interact with the public and attract new readers. And remember: space is limited, and this show will fill up fast.

Showcase your titles to the folks who know & love books best - librarians!

We love librarians! And they love indie publishers. This is one of our favorite book shows - and it shows! Join us in Mystic, CT this year for what everyone expects to be another dynamic NELA conference!

Since librarians delight in finding uncommon and regional books to meet their patrons' needs, they tend to be attracted to small presses.

The New England Library Association show is the one show where you'll find the most regional librarians, staff, and trustees gathered together in one place. They're especially interested in books from New England authors and publishers and books with other connections to our region as well as general titles.

    IPNE@NELA Exhibit Rates

IPNE members enjoy discounted exhibit rate starting at $55; there is a discount for multiple titles. You must be an IPNE member to exhibit at this event; JOIN HERE (partner organizations get a special IPNE membership rate).

    The NELA Advantage

If you're able to attend in person – at no additional fee, and space permitting, please contact the IPNE@NELA coordinator. As a volunteer, you can:

    • Meet scores of librarians from all six New England states. Expected attendance is over 600, of which about 65% work in public libraries, 25% in academic libraries, and 10% are in other categories.
    • Engage with buyers. 86% of NELA attendees control buying or influence purchasing decisions.
    • Enjoy a show schedule with nearly half of show hours as exclusive exhibit time (with no competing educational sessions) and refreshments in the hall.
    • Talk to attendees, draw their attention to your books on display, and make certain each attendee receives the IPNE Catalog with a NELA show exhibitor insert.
